When creating engaging presentations with PowerPoint, animation templates can be a powerful tool to enhance your slides and captivate your audience. To get started, create a new slide and insert a shape, such as an arrow or a rectangle. Then, right-click on the shape and select 'Send to Back' to move it behind another shape if needed. This half-transparent shape will show the endpoint of the motion path.

The line you draw describes the path that the green arrow indicates where the shape starts and the red arrow indicates where it ends. To create a motion path, go to the 'Motion Paths' option under the 'More' tab in the Animation Gallery and select 'Lines'.

Once you've added an entrance animation like Fly In, you can control where the shape ends up and the direction and sequence with Effect Options. However, you can't control where the shape begins or the path it takes.

For a more customized approach, double-click on the motion's final endpoint and hold the left mouse button while moving the pointer along the path you want the object to follow. You can also create freehand paths by clicking where you want the motion to start, then moving and clicking again to draw another line.

To draw a path of connected straight lines, click where you want the motion path to start, and when you click again, the pointer will appear as a cross-hair. Drag either end to place the endpoints where you want them.

For even more control, click 'Custom Path' and choose from options like Lines, Arcs, Turns, Shapes or Loops. The green arrow indicates the path's beginning and the red arrow its end. Once selected, the chosen path will appear as a dotted line on the selected object or text.
